A01 - Epigenetic regulation by endocannabinoids in the vascular system

In this application, the anti-inflammatory role of endocannabinoids (eCB) for the cells in the vascular system is studied. In the past funding period we could show that eCB terminate the expression of vascular inflammatory genes through epigenetic mechanisms. First experiments suggest a role of the deacetylase-corepressor-complex NCoR1-HDAC3/5. In addition to this, eCB target gene shall be identified. Preliminary experiments combining ATAC- and RNA-Seq identified the highly conserved lncRNAs NEAT-1 and MALAT1 as eCB targets. In the coming funding period, we will studied the physiological importance of antinflammatory effects of eCB, their epigenetic mode of action and the effects of eCB controlled lncRNAs.
